Living in the response district is not a requirement to join our team, but we do ask that all applicants are willing to commit to our training requirements and be available to stay at the stations during your duty shifts.

Meetings
Every Tuesday and Thursday we will meet at {Station 82} in Newport starting at 7:00 PM for business meetings or training. This is a great time to stop by and meet our dedicated volunteers while receiving additional information about our organization.
Training
Every new member will enter into the recruit firefighter training program upon application approval by the membership. During the recruit firefighter training phase, the member will learn the necessary basic firefighting skills and knowledge required.
Once a member has demonstrated to the training department the necessary skills and knowledge to be a basic firefighter, the member is eligible to move into the probationary firefighter program. The probationary firefighter program is designed to prepare the member for full membership.
Time Commitment
During the initial training period the member needs to be present at as many training events as their schedule allows. Once the member becomes a full member of the department, they will be required make at minimum 1 business meeting, 5 trainings, and complete a minimum of 72 hours of Duty Shifts in each quarter to maintain active membership.
Equipment
The Crosby Volunteer Fire Department provides all members with uniform shirts and bunker gear. Any uniforms, gear or equipment issued by the department remains property of the department and must be returned upon leave.

We offer paid stipends for duty shifts completed, per call attended, per training session and community relations event up to a maximum annual amount. This financial incentive is our way of acknowledging the commitment and hard work of our members.
Additionally, after your first year of full membership, you will be eligible to participate in the Texas Emergency Services Retirement System. This program includes a monthly contribution towards your retirement fund, with members becoming fully vested after 15 years in the system.
Furthermore, as a member of the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department, you will have access to a VFIS life insurance policy along with your SFFMA Membership dues, paid by the department. These benefits provide added financial security for you and your loved ones, ensuring peace of mind as you serve your community.
Beyond these direct benefits, membership in our department also grants you access to a range of other benefits through the SFFMA (State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas). These additional perks are designed to support and enhance your experience as a firefighter and community servant.
Once a full member of the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department, you will be eligible to receive reimbursement for Firefighting I & II courses that are successfully completed while a member of the department. Additionally, the department also reimburses up to half of EMR, EMT, and Paramedic courses taken while a member of the department. Reimbursements are subject to approval and restrictions, inquire with the training department for more details.
Furthermore, members of the department are eligible to attend approved outside training courses and certifications hosted throughout the state by accredited training organizations such as TEEX, paid for by the department.
